Clint Eastwood was born on May 31, 1930 (84 years old) in San Francisco, California. Some accredit Eastwood's work mentality to his parents, Clinton Sr., a steel and migrant worker, and Margaret Ruth, an IBM factory worker. Eastwood grew up working class and was used to working for what he wanted. While at Oakland Technical High School, a teacher encouraged him to be in the theater classes, which he declined. After graduation, he went to Seattle University where he was drafted in the Army in 1951. While in the Army he was a lifeguard and swim instructor.
Eastwood considers himself a Republican and has publicly disapproved of the wars is Korea ('50-'53), Vietnam ('64-'73) calling it "immoral", Afghanistan ('01-Present), and Iraq ('03-'11). He believes that the United States shouldn't be global policemen. These beliefs however didn't take away from Eastwood's involvement in American Sniper because Eastwood says that American Sniper is, "The biggest antiwar statement any film (can make is to show) the fact of what (war) does to the family and the people who have to go back into civilian life like Chris Kyle did... In Chris Kyle's case, no good deed went unpunished" (IJReview.)
In addition, many of Eastwood's films, namely the westerns, have action packed scenes, but Eastwood has endorse gun control since 1973. Eastwood captures the character in Western films and has gained success and recognition in reprized roles because of his experience in so many films. Eastwood is an actor who has faced monsters, as the protagonist, versus becoming the monster. Some of Eastwood's popular roles were as police officers, lawmen, lab assistants, and a jet pilot. Some of the antagonists faced were thugs, outlaws, criminals, and tarantulas. His wide exposure has driven his successes as an actor and director.
Another reason why Eastwood can be seen as a filmmaker who takes risks can be attributed to his family. Eastwood has been married twice and has had four partners. He also has seven children, ages 18-51, born to five mothers. One of his youngest, Scott, 29, has starred in The Longest Ride and been in Gran Torino, Fury, and Flags of Our Fathers. In addition, Kyle, 47, has done composing and music arrangements for Million Dollar Baby, Jersey Boys, Mystic River, and Flag of Our Fathers. Eastwood is reluctant in his sons being in certain films of his because he wants the films made as best as possible with the right casting.
